Canal Istanbul will put Turkey forward on global trade, minister says
The Kanal Istanbul will make Turkey a leading country and place it forward on global trade, the country's environment minister said on Dec. 28.
"Kanal Istanbul is a project of protection and rescue of the Bosphorus, the freedom project of the Bosphorus," Murat Kurum told a local party meeting in Denizli province.

Wiped out lake to be declared natural protected area
The 12,000-year-old Dipsiz (Fathomless) Lake, which has been wiped off the map by treasure hunters, will be filled with water again and declared as a protected area, Murat Kurum, minister of Environment and Urbanization, announced on Nov. 18.
Demolition of illegal buildings starts in Bodrum
The demolition of illegally constructed buildings in the Aegean province of Muğla's Bodrum district started on Sept. 28. Environment and Urbanization Minister Murat Kurum undertook field visits to the places where the demolition work occurred.

Eight construction sites sealed in Bodrum
Environment and Urbanization Minister Murat Kurum has announced that authorities have sealed eight construction sites, including four hotel and 1,611 dwelling projects, in the Aegean province of Muğla's Bodrum district on the grounds of their violating zoning regulations.

Turkey marks 20th anniversary of Marmara earthquake
Turkey marked the 20th anniversary of the 1999 Marmara earthquake, the worst seismic disaster in the country's recent history that killed around 18,000 people and wounded 50,000, with various commemoration events organized across the Marmara region on Aug. 17.
Turkey to rebuild 250 houses damaged in earthquake
Turkey's environment and urbanization minister said on Aug. 9 that they will help earthquake victims in the southwestern province of Denizli.
Murat Kurum visited the affected areas of Aug. 8's earthquake and met locals in the Bozkurt and Çardak districts.

Construction around Lake Salda not allowed: Minister
Environment and Urbanization Minister Murat Kurum has said that a planned park project around Lake Salda in the southern province of Burdur's Yeşilova district will not consist of any construction, vowing to protect the natural beauty of the lake.
