Bandırma Ferry Museum welcomes record number of visitors

In the first six months of the year, a record-breaking number of people have visited the Bandırma Ferry Museum, a replica of the historical ferry on which Mustafa Kemal Atatürk and other high military officials arrived in the northern province of Samsun to initiate the Turkish War of Independence on May 19, 1919.

Turkish parliament to probe mucilage threatening Marmara Sea

Turkey's parliament has agreed to set up an all-party committee to investigate a slimy, floating mass of yellowish-white sea mucilage that is threatening marine life in the Marmara Sea.

The so-called sea snot, a thick and slimy substance made up of compounds released by marine organisms, has surfaced in waters south of Istanbul, alarming marine biologists and environmentalists.

Man rams car into bank in Turkey's south, says he is 'against monetary system'

A man has rammed his car into a private bank in the southern province of Antalya's Muratpaşa district, saying he is "against the monetary system." 
Cem Mustafa Demir, 28, was caught as he was about to set the bank vault on fire, Doğan News Agency reported March 3.

Long-awaited restoration begins in Istanbul's Grand Bazaar

A long-awaited restoration in the world's oldest covered bazaar, Istanbul's historic Grand Bazaar, has begun with efforts to replace the tiles in the commercial and tourist venue. 

Restoration plans of the 554-year-old bazaar, known as "Kapalıçarşı" in Turkish, initially began seven months ago.

Regulation to be introduced to control short-term rentals in Turkey

Realtors and homeowners renting their properties for a short-term without a contract will be penalized if they fail to register tenants' information with the authorities and do not pay taxes, in a measure that is expected to prevent terror and prostitution-related crimes, daily Star reported on Oct. 19.
