Libya's chief prosecutor said Saturday he would establish a fact-finding mission to investigate a meeting last month between the foreign minister of one of the country's rival governments and Israel's chief diplomat.

Libya's prime minister suspended Foreign Minister Najla Mangoush on Sunday and referred her for investigation after Israel said its Foreign Minister Eli Cohen had met her last week despite the countries not having formal relations.

After several years of virtually nonexistent relations, Greek Foreign Minister Giorgos Gerapetritis spoke on the phone Wednesday with Najla Mangoush, the interim foreign minister of the government of national unity in Tripoli.

The failure to hold a consultative meeting of Arab League foreign ministers in the Libyan capital is seen as evidence of the diplomatic isolation of the Tripoli government, even among Arab states. 

Indicatively, of the 22 countries in the Arab League, 15 did not attend, and neither did its secretary-general, Ahmed Aboul Gheit. 

A handful of top Arab diplomats met Sunday in the Libyan capital in a gathering boycotted by powerful foreign ministers who argued that the mandate of the Tripoli-based government has ended.

Turkey's top diplomat has reiterated its support to Libya and underlined that the upcoming elections slated for the end of this year should be held in a free, fair and credible manner.

Turkish Foreign Minister Mevlüt Çavuşoğlu met with numerous top diplomats and heads of international organizations on June 19 on the occasion of the Antalya Diplomacy Forum (ADF) in southern Turkey.

Çavuşoğlu started the day with a trilateral meeting with the participation of foreign ministers of Malta and Libya, Evaris Bartolo and Najla Mangoush, respectively in Antalya.

A high-level delegation from Turkey visited Libya on June 12 upon the instructions of Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan ahead of June 14's NATO summit.
