Interim Prime Minister, Nicolae Ciuca, stated on Thursday that the success of the anti-COVID-19 vaccination campaign will depend in a great measure on the way in which the authorities communicate. He stated, at the start of the Government sitting on Thursday, that on Wednesday he had activities in planning and conducting the anti-COVID-19 vaccination campaign.

Interim Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca had a meeting on Wednesday with Foreign Affairs Minister of the Republic of North Macedonia Bujar Osmani, on the occasion of the latter's visit to Bucharest, in which context he reiterated that Romania will continue to be "an active and vocal supporter" of the Republic of North Macedonia throughout its EU accession process.

The Strategic Partnership between Romania and the US is one of the pillars that our country's defence is based on and has significantly contributed to Romanian Armed Forces development, Interim Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca said at the US Embassy, on the occasion of his being awarded the Legion of Merit (in rank of officer).

President Klaus Iohannis stated on Tuesday that the strengthening and extending of the Strategic Partnership with the USA represents a basic pillar of Romania's foreign policy.

Interim PM Nicolae Ciuca stated that the Government will analyse the decision draft based on which the state of alert will be extended by 30 days, underscoring that the news saying Romania is about to enter lockdown are fake.

The success in Parliament of a party with extremist views, with some of its members denying the Holocaust, should not be ignored, said on Thursday, the Israeli Ambassador in Bucharest, David Saranga, who voiced his hope that the first candle lit on the occasion of the Hanukkah holiday will drive away the hatred between people and be one of hope and peace.

The ruling centre-right National Liberal Party, PNL, went to the polls with its leader and then-prime minister, Ludovic Orban, as their choice to head the new government. 

But the PNL's unexpected defeat on Sunday at the hands of the opposition Social Democratic Party, PSD, which won 29 per cent of the votes, 4 more per cent than the PNL, left Orban in a precarious position. 

Interim Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca underscored the importance for the authorities to raise public awareness on "modern-day slavery", stressing that it is essential to ensure "cooperation and coordination of actions" to combat this scourge, at national, European and international level.

Human rights advocacy organization ActiveWatch and another six civic organizations sent President Klaus Iohannis a letter asking him to not accept a person with military background as Prime Minister. "The signatory organizations are asking you to not nominate someone with a military background for the position of Prime Minister.

Minister of Economy Virgil Popescu and US Ambassador Adrian Zuckerman signed, on Wednesday, at the Victoria Governmental Palace, in the presence of interim Prime Minister Nicolae Ciuca, the Romania-US Intergovernmental Agreement on cooperation in relation to the Cernavoda nuclear power projects and in the civil nuclear energy sector in our country.
