Defense Minister Nikos Dendias visited the remote eastern island of Kastellorizo in the Dodecanese on the occasion of the 81st anniversary of the liberation of the island.

During his visit, Dendias emphasized the island's significant geopolitical importance and its crucial role in Greece's Exclusive Economic Zone (EEZ) and Continental Shelf.

Athens has officially signed a Letter of Acceptance (LOA) with Washington for the acquisition of F-35 fighter jets, Defense Minister Nikos Dendias confirmed on Thursday.

"We are building a powerful military force by purchasing the most advanced fighter jet in the world," he said during a visit to the Elefsina Air Base west of Athens.

According to the Hellenic National Defence General Staff (GEETHA), early Sunday morning in the Gulf of Aden, the frigate protected a merchant ship. Utilizing both its anti-drone system and its guns, the frigate engaged four Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs). Two drones were shot down, and the other two were cleared, by the current Rules of Engagement.
