Ex-Golden Dawn MP cites poor mental state in face of prosecutors' questions

Former Golden Dawn MP Stathis Boukouras refused to answer magistrates’ questions on Monday when he faced them on charges of illegally possessing weapons.

Boukouras is reported to have said he was not in the right frame of mind to respond to questions. He claimed to have attempted to have killed himself twice while in pre-trial custody.

Golden Dawn leader Nikos Michaloliakos and two prominent MPs, Christos Pappas and Yiannis Lagos, are expected to appear in Parliament next Wednesday ahead of a vote to lift their immunity on a series of criminal charges.

The neo-Nazi MP demanded that those who leaked information should face charges of breaching confidentiality and privacy rules, as well as defaming the defendants.

Greece's Constitutional Court has allowed the ultranationalist Golden Dawn party to run in the upcoming European Parliament elections.

Despite an ongoing investigation against six of the party's members, including the leader Nikos Michaloliakos, the nationalists were given the green light to run for the EU polls, Kathimerini reports.
