Veliko Tarnovo Still Under State of Emergency, 300 Homes Flooded

After the Yantra river overflowed and flooded Bulgarian town of Veliko Tarnovo, more than 300 homes remain under water, Saturday.

The water levels of the Yantra and Belitsa rivers are already decreasing after the floods, however a number of landslides have been activated in the region, Nova Tv informed.

Another Victim of Deadly Varna Floods Reported, Death Toll Reaches 11

Another victim of the floods in Bulgaria's port city of Varna was found in the channel under the Asparuhov bridge, Friday night.

The unprecedented floods in the Varna district of Asparuhovo claimed 11 lives so far, including two children.

The last victim of the floods is a female and is yet to be identified, Nova Tv reports.

Urgent Food Safety Inspections Begin in Flooded Regions

Inspectors from Bulgarian Regional Food Safety Directorates in the floods-damaged areas are taking urgent measures to prevent food-borne illnesses and infectious animal diseases.

The production, storage and marketing sites for wholesale and retail foods will be inspected in order to prevent any foodstuffs unsafe for human consumption to enter the markets, Nova Tv reports.

Bulgaria's Parliament to Discuss Vetoed Interior Ministry Bill

Bulgarian MPs will again discuss the Ministry of Interior Bill which was adopted in end-May, and was vetoed by President Rosen Plevneliev.

After the Bulgarian Socialist Party (BSP), the Movement for Rights and Freedoms (DPS) and the Ataka party rejected the veto, the bill will be put up for discussion again, Wednesday, Nova Tv reports.

Ombudsman Starts Probe into 'Feudal' Working Conditions in Bobov Dol

Bulgaria's National Ombudsman Konstantin Penchev has referred to the Labor Inspectorate over working conditions at the controversial Bobov Dol mine.

He said on the BNT he was appalled at the "disgraces [shown] as a background to allegations and hidden cameras [reporting] of ballot-buying and corporate voting".

Bulgarian Polling Agencies Form 'Carthel' Before EU Vote - Expert

A carthel agreement is in force among Bulgaria's polling agencies ahead of the European elections on Sunday, a prominent political scientist has warned.

Antoniy Galabov told the Bulgarian National Radio that it "functions through various polling agencies" and has dimensions different from [those of] sociology.
