Djokovic to officially begin new season in Doha

DOHA - Following his recovery from an elbow injury, Serbia's top-ranked male tennis player Novak Djokovic will officially begin the new season at the Doha tournament in January, the organisers have announced.

The current world number 12 will play in Qatar after taking part in an exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi.

ABU DHABI - Serbia's all-time best male tennis player Novak Djokovic will make a return to the tennis court at an exhibition tournament in Abu Dhabi in late December after being sidelined for five months with an elbow injury.

The impressive line-up of the December 28-30 tournament also includes Stan Wawrinka, Rafael Nadal, Pablo Carreno Busta, Dominic Thiem and Milos Raonic.

Djokovic ends season due to elbow injury

BELGRADE - Serbia's top-ranked male tennis player Novak Djokovic confirmed on Wednesday he has ended his season due to an elbow injury.

"I will not be playing until the end of the season due to the elbow situation. I will not even be able to pick up a racquet for two months, and I will use the break to devote time to family," Djokovic announced via Facebook.

Djokovic 99 percent certain to miss US Open

BELGRADE - Serbia's top-ranked male tennis player Novak Djokovic is almost certain to miss the US Open due to an elbow injury, Zdenko Milinkovic, a physician with the Serbia national team, has told the Sportski zurnal daily.

Milinkovic, who is also an orthopaedic surgeon, has examined Djokovic, and says the player is set to be sidelined for six to twelve weeks.

Twelve-time Grand Slam champion Novak Djokovic will not play again in 2017 because of an elbow injury, according to BBC Sport.

Former world number one Djokovic, 30, retired injured during his Wimbledon quarter-final match against Tomas Berdych on 12 July.

He said then he had suffered an elbow problem for over a year and a half.
