Nearly two years after the overthrow of autocrat Omar al-Bashir, Sudan is taking steps to rejoin the international community from which it was long shunned. That includes its film industry.

In Sudan's capital Khartoum, a hip-hop producer who had his equipment seized during anti-government protests last year is now free to mix tracks in his studio.

Across town, an all-female troupe in pink T-shirts and white jeans practice rhythmic dance routines late in the evening in a dimly-lit car park.

A crisis in Sudan after a military coup against Omar al-Bashir should be overcome peacefully through "national conciliation," President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan said on April 11, adding that Turkey supports the continuation of "deep-rooted" relations with the African country.
