The Supreme Court of Cassation (VKS) on Tuesday is to hold a sitting over his refusal to allow the use of special surveillance equipment against a former anti-mafia official.

The Supreme Court of Cassation (VKS) of Bulgaria has confirmed rulings by two other courts that Tsvetan Tsvetanov, a former Interior Minister and now deputy head of the main ruling party, is not guilty of embezzlement.

The Sofia Appellate Court has revoked the 4-year prison sentence of former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov over blocking the deployment of special surveillance equipment against Orlin Todorov, former head of Veliko Tarnovo's regional anti-mafia unit, and two other people.

The Sofia Appellate Court is launching the lawsuit against Tsvetan Tsvetanov, former Interior Minister and current Deputy Chair of the GERB party, over crimes against the justice system.

The lawsuit had been stopped for over two months due to Tsvetanov's MP immunity, according to reports of the Bulgarian National Radio.

The Sofia Appellate Court has temporarily suspended the embezzlement case f against former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov due to the immunity from prosecution he acquired after taking an oath of office as MP.

Orlin Todorov, former director of the anti-mafia unit in Veliko Tarnovo, has been handed a one-year suspended sentence with three years of probation and a fine of BGN 2000.

The prosecuting authority has requested a penalty of eight years of imprisonment for Orlin Todorov, former head of the ani-mafia unit in Bulgaria's Veliko Tarnovo

The trial is underway at the Veliko Tarnovo District Court.

Sofia City Court adjourned Friday the trial against former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov over allowing illegal surveillance while he was in office.

It was the third time in a week Tsvetanov was to appear before court on three separate cases.

The prosecution has demanded 3 years on probation for Bulgaria's former Interior Minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov, Thursday.

Tsvetanov may also be banned from occupying senior government positions in the next three years, BGNES reports.

Sofia City Court acquitted former interior minister Tsvetan Tsvetanov who was tried for embezzlement.

The prosecution accused Tsvetanov for large-scale embezzling to the tune of BGN 50 000 from the budget of the Interior Ministry.
