Büyükakçay to take on Rogers at French Open

Turkish player Çağla Büyükakçay will take on Shelby Rogers at the French Open on May 31 after beating Croatia's Mirjana Lucic-Baroni in straight sets on May 28. 

The world's 155th-ranked player won 6-3, 6-3 against her 35-year-old rival, who is a full 133 spots ahead of her in the world rankings.

"I'll face another tough rival," Büyükakçay told Anadolu Agency after the win. 

Tennis: Pironkova Defeats Tsurenko in Apia International Sydney 1st Round

Bulgaria's top female tennis player Tsvetana Pironkova has prevailed against Ukraine's Lesia Tsurenko in the first round of the Apia International Sydney tournament on Sunday. 

Pironkova defeated Tsurenko 7-6; 6-2 to move to the second round of the tournament held in Sydney, Australia.

Jankovic eases through to Doha second round

DOHA - Serbia's Jelena Jankovic advanced to the second round of the Qatar Total Open in Doha with a convincing win over China's Saisai Zheng 6-0, 6-2 on Tuesday.

Currently ranked as World No. 23 in the WTA rankings, Jankovic stormed past Zheng, dropping just two games in the second set.

Jankovic next faces No. 1 seed Petra Kvitova of the Czech Republic.

Grigor Dimitrov Keeps 11th Place in Ranking, Pironkova Drops

Bulgaria's top male tennis player kept his 11th place in the ATP ranking, while the country's best female representative Tsvetana Pironkova dropped seven positions in the WTA ranking.

Dimitrov, who was defeated in the second round of the Rotterdam Open last week, retains his 11th place with 3465 points.

Djokovic, Serena show no mercy as Azarenka romps

World number ones Novak Djokovic and Serena Williams showed no mercy in powering through to the Australian Open second round Jan. 20 as unseeded dark horse Victoria Azarenka won her grudge match.
      
Defending men's champion Stan Wawrinka, Japanese fifth seed Kei Nishikori and women's fourth seed Petra Kvitova also stayed on course.
      

Kvitova Defeats Bulgaria's Pironkova at Semifinals in Sydney

Bulgaria's No.1 female tennis player Tsvetana Pironkova lost to Petra Kvitova from the Czech Republic at the semifinals of the women's singles competition at the Apia International tournament in Sydney.

Kvitova defeated Pironkova, who was the reigning champion in Sydney, with 7:5, 6:1 on Thursday, electronic daily Dnevnik reports.
