Buckingham Palace: Prince Philip will no longer carry out public engagements from September

The news was announced at an “emergency meeting” with all senior staff and aides at the palace this morning.

A statement from Buckingham Palace said: “His Royal Highness The Duke of Edinburgh has decided that he will no longer carry out public engagements from the autumn of this year. In taking this decision, The Duke has the full support of The Queen.

Theresa May tells Vogue about ‘gentleman’ Donald Trump

Theresa May insists Donald Trump was “being a gentleman” when he held her hand during her US visit shortly after he became 45th president.

In an interview with the style magazine American Vogue, she says: “We were about to walk down a ramp, and he said it might be a bit awkward.”

Asked what she made of Mr Trump, she adds: “I like to think we got on.”

Some people are already angry that anyone could say that Alexander wasn’t Greek or that he was only Macedonian, even saying that he was both could rile some people up. On the other hand, some people may have no idea how big an issue this has been in recent years and haven’t given a thought to the ethnicity of Alexander.

EU Parliament chief tweets about Alexander the Great's heritage

European Parliament President Antonio Tajani sought on Thursday, with a tweet written in Greek, to set the record straight with regard to comments he made last year about the ethnicity of Alexander the Great and his father, Philip II of Macedon.

"I know my history very well. Alexander the Great was Greek and his ideas contributed to the birth of Europe," he tweeted.

A video showing the newly elected President of the European Parliament, Antonio Tajani referring to FYROM as “Macedonia”, has caused a backlash in Greece. The Italian politician went a step further by dubbing the citizens of FYROM descendants of Alexander the Great during a visit in the country’s capital Skopje, in February in his capacity as European Commissioner.

Britain's 90-year-old Queen Elizabeth eases her workload

Britain's Queen Elizabeth will step down as patron from a number of national organizations in the coming months after she turned 90 in April, Buckingham Palace said in a statement on Dec. 20.

Elizabeth, the world's longest-reigning living monarch, will pass her patronage of dozens of charities, academic institutions and sporting groups to other members of the royal family.

President of the Hellenic Republic Prokopis Pavlopoulos expressed the Greek people’s solidarity towards the Belgians on the abominable acts of terror in Brussels. Pavlopoulos extended his deepest condolences towards the families of those lost in the terrorist attacks in a contact with the head of the Belgian state, King Philip.

Britain to host China's Xi on first state visit

Chinese President Xi Jinping will make his first state visit to Britain next month, the British government said on Sept. 29, 10 years after the last such visit by a Chinese president.

The news of Xi's Oct 20-23 visit comes a week after British finance minister George Osborne visited China to strengthen economic and financial ties.
