Armed forces chief promoted to lieutenant general

Robert Glavaš, chief of the general staff of the Slovenian Armed Forces (SAF), has been promoted from major general to lieutenant general by President Nataša Pirc Musar, the army's supreme commander.

The promotion comes at a time of a demanding international situation which calls for multiple and wise adjustments, Pirc Musar said at a ceremony at the Presidential Palace on 24 June.

Pirc Musar calls for continued Belgrade-Prishtina dialogue

President Nataša Pirc Musar called on Serbia and Kosovo to continue the dialogue under the auspices of the EU as she met her Serbian counterpart Aleksandar Vučić in Belgrade on 15 June, arguing that it is the only real way to resolve the tensions in Kosovo and calm the situation.

Jože Pučnik, a key protagonist of Slovenia's democratisation and independence, was honoured on the 20th anniversary of his death on 11 January with President Nataša Pirc Musar describing him as a model statesman. The party that he used to lead organised a commemoration in Ljubljana.

Joy as border gates open between Slovenia and Croatia

There was celebration and joy on both sides of the Slovenian-Croatian border as Croatia joined the Schengen area and adopted the euro on 1 January. More than 30 years after the countries broke away from Yugoslavia, their citizens are once again using the same currency and can cross the border freely.
