SD without own presidential candidate

Ljubljana – The coalition Social Democrats (SD) will not field their own candidate in the 23 October presidential election and the party will also not endorse any of the candidates running, the SD presidency decided on Monday. SD leader Tanja Fajon said the party might decide to endorse a candidate in a potential run-off.

Gynaecologist Senčar 11th to announce presidential bid

Ljubljana – Gynaecologist Sabina Senčar has joined ten hopefuls who have so far announced their presidential bids as the country will be electing a new president on 23 October. She intends to run with the support of Resni.ca, a non-parliamentary party founded amid the Covid epidemic to oppose restrictions.

RTV poll shows Pirc Musar in the lead in presidential race

Ljubljana – Lawyer and ex-Info Commissioner Nataša Pirc Musar is in the lead in the presidential race, according to a poll conducted by Mediana for public broadcaster RTV Slovenija. She enjoys the support of 23.9% of respondents and is followed by former foreign minister Anže Logar (16.6%) and Freedom Movement vice-president Marta Kos (14.4%).

Ljubljana – Marta Kos, vice-president of the Freedom Movement, has officially announced her bid for the presidency of the republic. She will run as her party’s candidate, while the other two coalition parties said following her announcement on Tuesday that they would likely run with candidates of their own.

Psychoanalyst Krajnik enters presidential race

Ljubljana – Nina Krajnik, a philosopher and psychoanalyst, has announced she is entering the presidential race. She will run as an independent but will accept endorsement by like-minded political parties.

“I am making it official and public. I will run for president of the republic in the autumn election,” the 37-year-old told the press on Monday.
