Top judge appointments null, void

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos has refused to sign two presidential decrees for the appointment of a new prosecutor and president of the Supreme Court that had been selected by the previous SYRIZA administration.
The decrees, which were returned to the newly elected New Democracy government unsigned, are considered null and void, and not binding, as a result.

Pavlopoulos expresses grief over loss of life in Halkidiki storm

Greek President Prokopis Pavlopoulos has expressed his grief and condolences over the loss of life in a violent storm in the country's northern Halkidiki peninsula on Wednesday night.
"I express my grief over the victims of the disastrous storm in Halkidiki and I extend my sincere condolences as well as my full support to the families and their relatives," Pavlopoulos said.

New Democracy wins in landslide, Mitsotakis to be sworn in as PM tomorrow

New Democracy has garnered a solid parliamentary majority according to exit polls that give Greece's conservative party a landslide 12 percentage point lead over left-wing SYRIZA.

New Democracy leader Kyriakos Mitsotakis is scheduled to be sworn in as Prime Minister by President Prokopis Pavlopoulos at the Presidential Mansion at 1pm tomorrow, 8 July.
