Accetto elected new president of Constitutional Court

Ljubljana – Matej Accetto has been elected president of the Constitutional Court after his peers voted to give him a three-year term at the helm of Slovenia’s top court. He will take over from Rajko Knez on 19 December, the court said on Monday.

The law stipulates that the nine Constitutional Court judges elect the president from among their ranks in a secret ballot.

Pahor to deliver keynote, Janša and Michel to address Statehood Day ceremony

Ljubljana – The keynote speaker at the main ceremony marking Statehood Day and the 30th anniversary of Slovenia’s independence will be President Borut Pahor, while PM Janez Janša and President of the European Council Charles Michel will deliver addresses as well. The event will be open to everyone, the Government Communication Office (UKOM) said.

Janša says SDS will not allow soloing in coalition any longer

Ljubljana – Democrats (SDS) president and Prime Minister Janez Janša has announced in a letter to the party membership that the party will work in realising the commitments from the coalition agreement, and he expects the same from partners. The mechanism of coordination does not allow soloing and the SDS will not allow this, he added.

Knez warns against overworked Constitutional Court as this would weaken it

On the occasion of Constitution Day, Constitutional Court president Rajko Knez has told the STA in an interview that the country’s top court has also been affected by the Covid-19 epidemic in terms of caseload. He warned against the overburdening of the Constitutional Court with additional tasks in general as this may weaken the institution.
