Ogün Samast, the murderer of Armenian-origin journalist Hrant Dink, testified for the first time in the ongoing case during a hearing yesterday, shedding light on the web of events surrounding the assassination.

Samast, who recently served nearly 17 years in prison for the 2007 murder, faces new charges allegedly tied to FETÖ, the group blamed for the 2016 coup attempt.

Ogün Samast, the convicted perpetrator of the 2007 assassination of Armenian-origin journalist Hrant Dink, found himself back in court yesterday, this time facing charges related to terrorism.

Hundreds of people gathered in Istanbul on Jan. 19 to mark the death anniversary of Hrant Dink, a prominent Turkish-Armenian journalist who was gunned down in broad daylight in front of his office 16 years ago.

A Turkish court on Thursday decided to seize the assets of 12 fugitive suspects, including ringleader of FETÖ, in the 2007 murder case of a prominent Armenian-Turkish journalist unless they return to the country, according to a judicial source.

A Turkish court handed down prison terms to former police chiefs, gendarmerie officers and others linked to FETÖ for a cover-up related to the murder of Hrant Dink, a prominent Turkish-Armenian journalist who was shot dead in front of his Istanbul office in 2007.

Hrant Dink, a prominent Turkish-Armenian journalist, was remembered on Jan. 19 14 years after he was assassinated. 

Born in Turkey's eastern Malatya province in 1954, in 1996 Dink established the Agos newspaper in Istanbul, a publication that since has been published in both Armenian and Turkish. He also acted as the paper's editor-in-chief.

A Turkish court handed down jail terms to 131 members of the FETÖ following their trial, a judicial source said on Jan. 22.

A court in the capital Ankara sentenced former police intelligence chief Ramazan Akyürek to 45 years in prison, while his ex-deputy Gürsel Aktepe received 27 years.

The head of the Turkish Prime Ministry Inspection Board has asked for two key names to be removed from the report on the killing of Armenian-origin Turkish journalist Hrant Dink, one of the inspectors who prepared the report has said. 

One of the judges who is trying 35 suspects for the murder of Armenian-Turkish journalistHrant Dink in 2007 was detained on Dec. 2 on accusations that he is tied to the Gülenist organization. 

A total of 26 former police officers, including former police chiefs, went on trial on April 19 on charges of negligence in the 2007 assassination of prominent Armenian-Turkish journalistHrant Dink that sent shockwaves around the country.
