A 23-year-old Roma has been arrested in Megara, western Attica, facing charges of manslaughter and grievous bodily harm in connection with the brutal assault on his partner's 4-year-old son. The mother, who reported the stepfather to the police for the assault on her child, asserted that the man targeted the minor "because he did not want [the child]."

The number of registered unemployed in the Labor Offices continued to decline and in February and fell to 205,013, down from January with 2.1%. As of February 2018, the number of unemployed is nearly 25,600 less, the Employment Agency reported.

Bulgaria's Minister of Defence Krasimir Karakachanov, who is the leader of the far-right IMRO - Bulgarian National Movement, issued a harsh statement against Roma in his country. He said they have become arrogant and that society can no longer tolerate them, reports European Interest. 

The registered trend for decreasing the registered unemployment rate in the country continues in June, and its level is set at 5.7% in the month, the Employment Agency reported.

Three suspects, Roma men aged between 25 and 32, were arrested on Corfu Sunday in connection with a fire on the Ionian island, authorities say.

The fire burnt one hectare of farmland and threatened two homes and one warehouse before it was controlled.

The suspects are facing charges of deliberate arson. They are expected to appear before a prosecutor on Tuesday.

Two couples outside the southern Peloponnese town of Sparta were arrested this week after DNA testing showed they were not the biological parents of a young girl and boy, respectively.

The four suspects, identified as Roma, lived in gypsy settlement outside the city.

Some progress, but Roma still face many difficulties

EUR 1.8 bn pledged for Serbia and Bosnia

BRUSSELS -- A total of EUR 1.846 billion worth of aid for Serbia and Bosnia-Herzegovina was raised at the donor conference in Brussels on Wednesday.

This was announced by European Commissioner for International Cooperation, Humanitarian Aid and Crisis Response Kristalina Georgieva at the conclusion of the conference.
