Open-air film nights in Ayvalık
Seyir Association (Eye Society- For all watching occasions), which organizes the Ayvalık International Film Festival every year, kicks off the season with the Open Air Film Night Series to be held between June 24 and July 2.
A series of 10 films selected from world festivals will be screened in the seaside garden of the New Ayvalık Municipal Building (former Tax Office).

Cannes Film Festival readies a blockbuster edition
The Cannes Film Festival, which kicks off today, is such a colossal extravaganza that taking measure of its ups and downs is notoriously difficult. It's a showcase of the world's best cinema. But by at least some metrics, Cannes, following a canceled 2020 festival, a much-diminished 2021 edition and a triumphant 2022 return, is finally all the way back.

Michael Douglas to receive honorary Palme at Cannes
Film star Michael Douglas will receive an honorary Palme d'Or at the Cannes Film Festival later this month, the organizers announced on May 3.
The award recognizes the 78-year-old's "brilliant career and engagement with cinema" and there will be a homage to the actor during the opening ceremony on May 16.

Mariya Gabriel will Present the Project "Evening of the European Cinema"
Mariya Gabriel, EU Commissioner for European Digitization, Cyber Security and Copyright, will personally present "European Cinema Evening", a first edition of a project created on the initiative of the Creative Europe - MEDIA Program, which provides access to over 7000 European citizens and is organized in partnership with the pan-European "Europe Cinemas" chain.

Swedish director winner of 70th Cannes Festival
It was not a great festival. Among the 19 features selected for the competition in Cannes, there were quite a number of "mediocre" films, besides some good films. I had three favorites: "Loveless" by Russian director Andrey Zvyagintsev, "Happy End" by Austrian Michael Haneke and "The Square" by Swedish director Ruben Östlund.
