'Tombstone' hats remind whirling dervishes of their death
The tall light brown hats worn by whirling dervishes are as intriguing as the elliptical dance performed in honor of the Sufi poet and mystic Rumi.
In Konya, a sprawling city in central Anatolian plain where Rumi spent most of his life and died 750 years ago, one of the last workshops makes these special "sikke" hats to order.
Rumi 165 cm tall, 60 kilos heavy: Expert
Rumi was a man weighing between 60 and 63 kilos, with a height of 160 and 165 centimeters, the head of the Rumi Museum in the Central Anatolian province of Konya has said.
Naci Bakırcı highlighted that he has come to this conclusion after examining Rumi's 19 clothes in the museum's inventory and some 18th-century drawings.

Rumi meets with digital art
Rumi Dreams, a new digital project by Refik Anadol, who is known around the world with his artificial intelligence-based artworks, was introduced at Istanbul Atatürk Culture Center (AKM) on June 4. The exhibition will be on display as part of the Beyoğlu Cultural Road Festival through to June 12.

A museum in central Turkey dedicated to the 13th-century Muslim mystic poet Mevlana Jalaluddin al-Rumi hosted a record of nearly 3.5 million visitors in 2019.
The Mevlana Museum, located in Konya, drew a total of 3,464,000 local and foreign tourists last year, becoming the country's number two museum destination after the Hagia Sophia Museum in Istanbul.

Madame Tussauds to open in Istanbul
The world's most famous wax museum, Madame Tussauds, is set to open a branch on Istanbul's İstiklal Avenue on Nov. 28.
At a press conference before the official opening, Sarper Hilmi Suner, the General Director of Legoland Discovery Center and Madame Tussauds in Istanbul, said the museum featured wax figures with a history going back 250 years.
