A statue to a 17th century British slave trader was torn down on June 7 during an anti-racism protest in Bristol in southwest England amid calls for other historic reminders of the slave trade to be removed.

Andrea Leadsom, Julian Smith, Geoffrey Cox and Theresa Villiers have all been sacked from the cabinet in what is likely to be a relatively modest reshuffle by Boris Johnson, The Guardian reported.

The housing minister and the universities minister were also dismissed.

British Prime Minister Boris Johnson will make changes to the government tomorrow, according to his office, cited by the France Press. These will be the first ministerial shifts in the UK since Brexit.

It is reported that Johnson wants to focus on domestic politics and reduce the number of ministers.

As Index.hr carried, Johnson's advisors had a meeting on Sunday to discuss the ways in which they could prevent British parliament form imposing three-month Brexit extension if they do not strike a deal with EU.

HM Treasury (UK government's economic and finance ministry) will add £ 2bn (€ 2.2bn) to its 2020/2021 spending plan to fund Brexit preparations. This was announced by Finance Minister Sajid Javid's office last night, cited by AFP.

More than £ 2 billion will be set aside by the UK government in order for the country to prepare for it's exit from the European Union, Finance Minister Sajid Javid said, specifying that these funds will be used to recruit new border guards, secure drug supplies and launch an information campaign .

He specified that if this is not the case, UK will exit EU without an agreement, Johnson's spokesperson stated.
"Prime Minister is willing to sit down and negotiate, as soon as their position changes", his spokesperson said, Reuters reports.

Nearly 700,000 people have been granted permission to remain in the UK after Brexit, the UK Department of the Interior reported, e-mailing the Daily Mail.About 166,900 people turned to the government scheme to settle European citizens in May to secure their status after Brexit, according to statistics.

Today, the two candidates for the final vote as the leader of the British Conservative Party will become known. After the last third round, four candidates survived, including Boris Johnson, who will surely end up till the final round. The second one will be set between Jeremy Hunt, Michael Gow and Sajid Javid.

Ten candidates will compete for Theresa May's place as leader of the British Conservative Party.
