The European Union could propose to the International Olympic Committee and Thomas Bach for the Marathon to be held on its original route, in Athens, regardless of where the Olympic Games take place, said Vice President of the European Commission Margaritis Schinas shortly before the start of the 40th Authentic Athens Marathon on Sunday.

The NATO Summit went smoothly for Greece, as Turkish President Recep Tayyip Erdogan made no reference to Greek-Turkish relations and did not raise the issue of the demilitarization of the Aegean islands.

European Commission Vice President for promoting the European Way of Life Margaritis Schinas has issued a message marking the 40th anniversary of Greece's membership of the European Union.

In his statement, Schinas said that Greece's inclusion "in the first tier of European integration" over the past four decades had "changed the country's fate."
