Prosecutor seeks 11 years in jail for journalist Kabaş

A prosecutor's office is seeking up to 11 years and eight months in jail for journalist Sedef Kabaş on charges of "insulting" President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and two ministers.

The Istanbul prosecutor completed the investigation in the case and prepared the indictment against Kabaş, who was arrested last month, over her remarks about the president aired on private broadcaster Tele 1.

TV journalist arrested for ‘insulting’ president

A Turkish TV journalist was arrested late on Jan. 22 for comments she made on air about President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan.

Within the scope of the investigation started by the Istanbul Prosecutor's Office, police detained Sedef Kabaş at 2 a.m. on Jan. 22.

Appearing in court, Kabaş said she had no intention to "insult the president."
