The idea of sending "undercover patients" to hospitals is in fact a part of the anti-corruption strategy that the Ministry of Health has to implement by 2020, Health Minister Sorina Pintea said on Tuesday. "It's not my idea; it's part of a strategy that the Ministry of Health must implement by 2020 - the story with the mysterious patient.

The government is considering building new hospitals and equipping them with the necessary equipment, besides the approved raise in the pay to doctors and other healthcare staff, Prime Minister Viorica Dancila said on Friday after visiting the Zalau County Emergency Hospital. She was asked for an opinion on the conditions found at the hospital.

An informal meeting of health ministers from the member states of the European Union will take place in Bucharest today at Parliament Palace, to be chaired by Romania's Health Minister Sorina Pintea. Romania is facing a flu epidemic, as the flu activity has continued for the third straight epidemic week, Health Minister Sorina Pintea said on Wednesday, adding that the circulation of the influenza virus will be intense in February too.

The situation is serious at the moment, Health Minister Sorina Pintea said on Tuesday at private TV broadcaster Antena 3, referring to the spread of influenza.

"We do not expect a decrease in the intensity of the virus' circulation in February," added Pintea.
