The perpetrator, a local 27-year-old man who came upon her as she was jogging on a country road near the conference that she was attending.

Eaton murder suspect to face investigating magistrate

The 27-year-old man who has allegedly admitted to the rape and murder of US biologist Suzanne Eaton on Crete was on Friday to appear before an investigating magistrate.

The man, whom police have identified as Yiannis Paraskakis, had been given a 48-hour extension to prepare his defense on Wednesday after his lawyer quit.

The court appointed him a new attorney.

Authorities identify suspect detained for Eaton murder

Police yesterday identified a 27-year-old man who is charged with the murder of 59-year-old US biologist Suzanne Eaton on Crete earlier this month.

The man, who was identified as Ioannis Paraskakis, is said to have admitted to raping Eaton on July 2 after hitting her twice with his car and then disposing of her in a former German WWII bunker near the port of Hania.

A 27-year-old man in Crete has reportedly confessed to the killing of a 59-year-old American scientist whose body was found in an abandoned WWII bunker on July 8, according to a local news site.
