Slovenia in focus of Zagreb world literature festival

Zagreb – Slovenian literature will be in focus as the 9th Festival of World Literature gets under way in Zagreb on Sunday evening. Singer songwriter and author Zoran Predin is to appear at the opening ceremony.

The festival will feature several Slovenian authors among many literary stars from a total of 16 countries, including Belarusian Nobel Prize winner Svetlana Alexievich.

Bulgarian Movie 'Losers' to Compete for Oscar with 84 Titles

Karatsi ("Losers") of Ivaylo Hristov is among the 85 movies vying in the Foreign Language Film contest of the 89th Academy Awards.

The Bulgarian title was awarded the Golden George prize at the Moscow International Film Festival (MIFF) last year. It tells the story of a secondary school student and his life as a loser in a small Bulgarian town.

Svetlana Alexievich wins Nobel prize in literature

Belarusian journalist and writer Svetlana Alexievich has been awarded the 2015 Nobel prize in literature.

Swedish Academy stated that her work was a “monument to suffering and courage in our time”.

Alexievich was born on the 31 May 1948 in the Ukrainian town Ivano-Frankovsk. Her father is Belarusian and her mother is Ukrainian.
