Police officers to undergo training in animal rights issues

A program to train at least one police officer in every police station in the country in animal rights issues will begin on Wednesday.

The officers will be trained to deal with cases related to animal abuse, be they strays, pets, working or game animals, exotic species and others, the police said.

Two arrested in relation to journalist Karaivaz’ murder

Police have made two arrests in relation to the murder of journalist Giorgos Karaivaz in April 2021, Citizen Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos has announced.

In a Facebook post, Theodorikakos said that "police arrested two people - who were the subject of an arrest warrant - involved in the murder of the deceased journalist."

Investigations began months ago following information provided to the Greek National Intelligence Service, NIS, by the Israeli secret service Mossad.

Minister of Citizens' Protection Takis Theodorikakos has ordered the immediate investigation into reports of police violence during a rally and protest march in Athens on Sunday over the deadly train accident at Tempe in central Greece last week.

Protecting Greece's borders requires the support of the European Union, the country's Citizens' Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos told 27 foreign ambassadors during a visit in the northeastern town of Alexandroupoli, where he briefed them about the Akritas plan to protect the border with Turkey at Evros.
