EU envoys to visit area for Akritas plan briefing
Greek Citizens' Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos will meet in the northeastern town of Alexandroupoli on Saturday with 27 ambassadors of EU member-states associated with the Schengen Treaty and of the UK to brief them about the Akritas plan to protect the border with Turkey at Evros.

Existing fence at Evros border to be extended further
The declaration for the extension of the fence along the length of the Evros River on Greece's northeastern border with Turkey was signed on Thursday by Citizens' Protection Minister Takis Theodorikakos and his deputy, Eleftherios Economou.

Crime rate down a quarter compared to pre-Covid era
The general crime rate in 2022 showed a significant decrease compared to the pre-coronavirus period (2015-2019), according to data released by the Hellenic Police (ELAS) on Tuesday.
Indicatively, the homicide rate (79) was at its lowest since 2011. Similarly, 88.61% of cases were solved - also the highest rate since 2011. Moreover, robberies were down 35.69%.

Five individuals have been arrested in connection with an incident in Aiginio, Piera, where a junior high school principal was handcuffed by members of the vigilante, anti-vax, self-styled 'Guardians of the Constitution', placed in a car, and driven to a police precinct.
Greece to boost guards on Turkey border
Greece's police minister on Oct. 10 said 250 additional guards would be deployed on the country's land border with Turkey, where thousands of asylum-seekers tried to enter last year.

First funds to be disbursed to Evia flood victims
