Northern Gaza left without functional hospital: WHO

The northern Gaza were left without a functional hospital due to a lack of fuel, staff, and supplies, a senior official from the World Health Organization stated.

"There are actually no functional hospitals left in the north," Richard Peeperkorn, the WHO representative in Gaza, said in an online press conference thursday.

Israel carried out deadly bombardments in Gaza on Sunday as international calls mounted for greater protection of civilians and the renewal of an expired truce with Palestinian militant group Hamas.

The Israeli army said it had conducted more than 400 strikes in Gaza since a ceasefire collapsed on Friday, with the Hamas government saying at least 240 people had been killed.

WHO is highly worried: "We've lost touch with health personnel at Al-Shifa Hospital"

"Reports of military incursion into Al-Shifa hospital are deeply concerning. We've lost touch again with the medical staff at the hospital. We're extremely worried for their and their patients' safety," the WHO director-general wrote on Platform X, Reuters reports.

The Main Hospital in Gaza is No Longer Functioning

The World Health Organization has been able to restore communications with health officials at Al-Shifa Hospital in northern Gaza, but it is no longer functioning as a hospital.

According to WHO Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus, the constant shooting and bombing has worsened the already critical situation.
