Ljubljana – Slovenia sailed past Germany 3:1 (18, 19, -21, 22) on Saturday to secure a berth in the quarter-final of the World Volleyball Championship for the first time ever.

Slovenia had dominated Germany in the preliminary round just days ago but this time the game was much more equal.

After the opening 3:0 win against Belarus on Thursday and a 3:1 win against Finland on Saturday, Slovenia scored another 3:0 win yesterday, pleasing the crowd of some 6,000 people in Stožice Arena.

Three Bulgarian players were selected in the dream team of this year's edition of the men's volleyball European Championship, which ended on Sunday.

Bulgaria's Viktor Yosifov was declared second best middle blocker of the tournament, while his fellow national Teodor Todorov was awarded as best middle blocker.
