Romania's government announced a series of cyberattacks on websites of key public institutions, including the government and the Defence Ministry, on Friday.

Defense Minister Hulusi Akar on April 6 held an online meeting with his counterparts from Black Sea coastal countries and discussed the floating mines in the Black Sea and the issue of humanitarian corridors to Ukraine.

The discussions, held upon Turkey's invitation, were fruitful, the minister said in a statement after the meeting.

Defense Minister Hulusi Akar on Feb. 16 attended NATO meetings in Brussels amid a crisis between the Alliance and Russia over the latter's military build-up in eastern Ukraine. Akar also had a bilateral meeting with his Greek counterpart after a fresh debate between the two neighbors over the status of the Aegean islands.

The President of the Romanian National Commission for UNESCO, the Minister of Education, Sorin Cimpeanu, on Tuesday stated that the institution he represents supports the UNESCO effort to ensure equal access to education for all, as a means of developing a democratic society, an inclusive one.

The chairman of the Social Democratic Party (PSD), Marcel Ciolacu, stated on Monday that the head of state must understand that "he lost" the parliamentary elections and must accept the nomination of the Social Democrats for the position of Prime Minister. The cabinet of Prime Minister Dacian Ciolos has recorded the third loss after Culture Minister Vlad Alexandrescu quit on Wednesday.

The Prime Minister sought Alexandrescu's resignation following an embarrassing dispute at the Bucharest National Opera, which the minister has failed to find a solution to.
