A year on, Abazovic has his deal with the Church and can point to a string of high-profile organized crime arrests. But while the work of the Constitutional Court has been unblocked, little progress has been made on reforming the judiciary, a key condition of Montenegro's EU accession process.

Prime Minister Dritan Abazovic praised the police and prosecution action, adding that the fight against organised crime and corruption was one of his minority government's priorities.

The former president of the Supreme Court, Vesna Medenica, is the first top judicial official to be arrested for abuse of office in Montenegro, despite decades of accusations about widespread corruption in the Adriatic country.

In the transcripts of the conversations using the encrypted messaging application Sky ECC, Milos Medenica claimed his mother was aware of their illegal business and said that they can expect protection from her.

Media reported that she was arrested for abuse of office.

The news was confirmed to "Vijesti" and "Vijesti" Television from several sources from the Police Administration.
According to reliable information, Medenica was detained due to a well-founded suspicion that she committed two criminal acts - creation of a criminal organization and abuse of official position, according to the portal Vijesti.

The trial began on Wednesday in Podgorica of those accused of attempted terrorism in Montenegro during on election day in that country on October 16, 2016.

Montenegro's Supreme Court has enabled a live TV broadcast of the proceedings.

The High Court in Podgorica is expected to decide on Wednesday whether Svetozar Marovic may remain in Belgrade for medical treatment or should return to Montenegro to serve his three-year prison sentence.

Marovic, jailed for corruption, has been in Serbia for months. His lawyers say he was admitted to a mental health institution on April 7.
