Striker Vipotnik transferred to Bordeaux in near record deal

Žan Vipotnik, the Slovenian football league's top scorer last year, is leaving Maribor to continue his career in Bordeaux. The six-time French champions, currently playing in the second division, unofficially paid around €3 million for the 21-year-old international in what could be a record deal for players from the Slovenian league.

Slovenia open Euro 2024 qualifying with a win

Slovenia defeated Kazakhstan 2:1 in Astana on 23 March to successfully open their Euro 2024 qualifying campaign after turning around a 0:1 deficit at half-time.

Slovenia, currently 62nd team in the FIFA rankings, have never started any of their qualifying rounds with an away win before. This is also the first time for them to take on Kazakhstan, which rank 115th.
