North Macedonia Jails Ex-Speaker Over Storming of Parliament
The Criminal Court in Skopje on Monday in a first instance verdict sentenced former speaker of parliament Trajko Veljanoski to six years and six months in jail and former transport and former labour ministers, Mile Janakieski and Spiro Ristovski, to six years and three months in jail each.
The former head of the secret police, Vladimir Atanasovski, was jailed for six years .

The trial has started in Skopje of those charged with organising a mob assault on parliament in North Macedonia in April 2017, aimed at preventing the then opposition Social Democrats from taking power.

Macedonia Arrests Former Secret Police Chief
Former Macedonian secret police chief Vladimir Atanasovski was arrested on Tuesday and placed in 30 days' detention on the request of the State Prosecution, which said there was a risk be might flee the country after his name was mentioned in a trial for the storming of the parliament building in 2017.
