Migrant crisis posed new challenges - panel

BELGRADE - The migrant crisis, which saw around a million people pass through Serbia, posed new challenges for local communities and self-government authorities - the citizens demonstrated humaneness and the authorities became aware of the significance of improving resilience to various crises and ensuring the necessary infrastructure, a panel was told Friday.

Cucic:Just 120 of over 6,000 refugees want to stay in Serbia

BELGRADE - There are over 6,000 new refugees and migrants in Serbia but only 120 want to stay in the country, says Commissioner for Refugees and Migrations Vladimir Cucic.

"For those who do not want to stay, Serbia is a huge waiting room where nearly all doors are shut or there is a threat they will become completely shut," Cucic told the N1.

Serbia Moves Refugees From Sid Following Campaign

At least 60 refugees will be transported this week out of a centre in Sid, near the Croatian border, after locals petitioned for their removal, complaining that they were a safety risk. 

Hundreds of refugees have been already transported from the centre, Serbia's State Commissioner for Refugees, Vladimir Cucic told BIRN.

Cucic: Serbia not on terrorist route

BELGRADE - Serbia is not a transit route used by terrorists to get to Western Europe - 70 percent of migrants passing through Serbia are Afghans and Pakistanis, while the number of Syrians and Iraqis is minor, and there are no refugees for Mosul, says Serbia's Commissioner for Refugees and Migration Vladimir Cucic.

Refugee housing agreement signed

BELGRADE - Serbia's Minister without Portfolio in chareg of EU integration Jadranka Joksimovic and Council of Europe Development Bank official Stephan Sellen signed on Tuesday an donation agreement worth EUR 26.7 million that will help provide housing for 1,585 of the poorest refugee families.

Housing project for refugees, displaced launched in Pancevo

PANCEVO - The head of the EU Delegation to Serbia Michael Davenport, the Serbian Commissioner for Refugees and Migrations Vladimir Cucic and Pancevo mayor Pavle Radanov on Wednesday visited the collective refugee centre in the city and a site where social housing units will be built for refugees and displaced persons.
