Bulgaria's state-owned energy company, "Bulgargaz," has suffered a significant setback, losing 27% of its market share as a result of a contract with the Turkish company "Botas." The contract, negotiated by the caretaker government, has raised concerns about its financial implications and the utilization of resources.

The construction of the gas connection between Bulgaria and Serbia on Bulgarian territory will being on February 1, according to a press release from the presidency.

Bulgaria launched a project to almost double its gas storage with a €152 million deal between grid operator Bulgartransgaz and a Bulgarian-led consortium signed on Friday.

"At this stage, Russian gas supplies to Bulgaria have not been interrupted so far," Vladimir Malinov, executive director of the Bulgarian gas network operator Bulgartransgaz, told Reuters.

On Tuesday, the Ministry of Energy announced that Gazprom had informed the Bulgarian state gas company Bulgargaz that it would suspend gas supplies from Wednesday.

The CEO of Bulgartransgaz Vladimir Malinov has denied the suggestions that the coronavirus in the region of Pleven has been transmitted to Bulgaria by Italian workers employed at the company Arkad based in Saudi Arabia, who are building the Balkan Stream gas pipeline.

The Bulgarian government on Thursday approved the participation of the country's main energy company, Bulgartransrgaz, in the LNG gas terminal in Greece, in a move designed to reduce its dependence on gas from Russia.

Bulgaria's share of the terminal located in northern Greece, offshore from Alexandropolis, will be 20 per cent.

President Recep Tayyip Erdoğan and his Russian counterpart Vladimir Putin will meet in Istanbul on Jan. 8 to attend the inauguration ceremony of the TurkStream natural gas pipeline.

The pipeline will transmit Russian natural gas to Turkey and Europe under the Black Sea.
