The defence teams of Jovica Stanisic and Franko Simatovic urged the International Residual Mechanism for Criminal Tribunals in The Hague on Tuesday to acquit both men of committing crimes during the wars in Croatia and Bosnia from 1991 to 1995.

The woman's identity has not been revealed.

Vladimir Petrovic, director of the Institute for Public Health of Vojvodina (IZJZV), said that the patient's death was the consequence of the gravity of her primary illness - and that it came despite the doctors using "all modern methods of treatment" to help her.

New Serbian ambassador to U.S. appointed

BELGRADE -- Đerđ Matković has been appointed as the new Serbian ambassador to the United States, the Official Gazette of the Republic of Serbia announced on Monday.

The decree on Matković's appointment has been signed by Serbian President Tomislav Nikolić.
