Serbia likely to soften its position on GMO ban
BELGRADE - It is almost certain Serbia will have to soften its position on the ban on GMO cultivation, but it is important that we do not get ahead of the EU on the matter, says Vukosav Sakovic, head of Serbia Grains, an association for advancement of production and exports of grains, oil seeds and products.

Corn yield excellent, larger area under wheat
BELGRADE - The corn harvest has practically been completed, and the yield stands at around eight tons per hectare, while wheat was planted on 600,000 hectares, which is more than last year, Vukosav Sakovic, director of the Zita Srbije association, told Tanjug.

Record corn export of 480,000 tons in November
BELGRADE - Serbia exported 480,000 tons of corn in November, which represents a record in terms of the country's monthly export of cereals, Zita Srbije Director Vukosav Sakovic told Tanjug.
He recalled that the record monthly export until now totalled 365,000 tons of corn, and added that the latest record export was recorded in November 2010.

Wheat yield "above five-year average"
BELGRADE -- One of the longest wheat harvests ever taking place in Serbia is 99 percent complete now, after being interrupted by rain a number of times.
This is what Director of the Grains of Serbia ("Žita Srbije") Association Vukosav Saković told Tanjug on Thursday.

BELGRADE -- Between 3 and 4 percent of arable land in Serbia was covered in water in the recent floods, but there will be enough food for the country's needs.
The wheat harvest will even yield enough for export, head of the association of grain farmers and exporters Žita Srbije Vukosav Saković told Tanjug on Friday.
