Venice fest boss baffled by hostility to Woody Allen

The head of the Venice Film Festival, which started yesterday, told AFP it was "absolutely incomprehensible" why U.S. opinion had turned so strongly against director Woody Allen.

The festival has been criticized for its inclusion of several directors with past sexual assault allegations in this year's line-up, including Allen, Roman Polanski and Luc Besson.

Woody Allen is Athens bound

American filmmaker, actor, and comedian Woody Allen will be in Athens next month to promote his new film "Coup de chance."

The screening, which will be introduced by the director himself, will take place on September 8 at Cine Aegli, the outdoor cinema at the Zappeion, as part of the 29th Athens International Film Festival Premiere Nights.

"I have zero interest in anyone's judgments and sanctimonious posts here," said Baldwin, himself at the center of a scandal after a cinematographer was shot dead last year on a film set by a gun Baldwin was holding.

Film Under the Stars opens at Ljubljana Castle

Ljubljana – Film Under the Stars, an annual series of open-air screenings in the courtyard of Ljubljana Castle co-organised by the city cinema Kinodvor, will open on Thursday evening with Alfred Hitchcock’s classic Notorious. Previews and some of last year’s most acclaimed films will be screened daily until 7 August.
