BELGRADE - Serbian President Aleksandar Vucic on Tuesday received a birthday message from Chinese President Xi Jinping, who extended his best wishes and noted that Vucic was a politician with a strategic vision who always looked after the people's interests.

Amidst the commencement of the annual session of the Chinese National Assembly in Beijing, Prime Minister Li Qiang has unveiled an ambitious target of 5% economic growth for the year ahead. The announcement sets the stage for discussions and deliberations over the nation's economic trajectory during the week-long assembly.

China set on Tuesday a growth target of around five percent for 2024, an ambitious objective that the leaders of the world's second-largest economy admitted would be a challenge to meet.

Premier Li Qiang formally announced the growth goal, alongside the overall budget and key government policies for 2024, as China's annual National People's Congress (NPC) kicked off Tuesday.

Vucic made the announcement at a Lunar New Year ceremony he hosted for Chinese Ambassador to Serbia Li Ming at Belgrade's Vila Mir.
