Yannis Markopoulos

The funeral of one of Greece's most influential composers of the 20th century, Yannis Markopoulos, will take place in Athens on Thursday, his family announced on Monday.

Markopoulos died at the age of 84 on Saturday evening after being hospitalized at the Alexandra Hospital in Athens, where he was admitted on June 5.

One of Greece's most influential composers of the 20th century, Yannis Markopoulos, was admitted on Friday to the intensive care unit of the Alexandra General Hospital in Athens after complications that occurred during treatment of the cancer he has been suffering from for the last year.

After spending half a century delighting entechno music lovers across the country, Manolis Mitsias is set to perform alongside vocalist Christina Galiatsou at Nafplio's Fougaro Theater. Mitsias is one of the foremost traditional Greek musicians today, and his discography boasts collaborations with musical greats like Mikis Theodorakis, Yannis Markopoulos and Vassilis Tsitsanis.

As the child of popular actor/musician Yiannis Zouganelis, Eleonora Zouganeli grew up in the limelight and made made her debut on the stage in 2004, in her 20s. She has since released seven albums and two singles, receiving a platinum and gold disc for her albums, "Come On" and "Exit 2," respectively.
