A symposium dedicated to the sustainability of Greece's smaller islands is taking on Nisyros this June. 

The strategic dimension of the EastMed pipeline agreement signed on Thursday in Athens is undisputed and has been stressed by champions and critics of the construction project alike. Elections to select a leader for the new center-left party will take place on Sunday, with all nine candidates hoping for a strong voter turnaround. 

Campaigning by candidates for the leadership of the new center-left party officially ends on Friday night, two days before elections take place on Sunday, with speeches by the leader of To Potami Stavros Theodorakis at Zappeion Hall in Athens and PASOK MEP Nikos Androulakis at the Vellidio Conference Hall in Thessaloniki.

As the nine candidates for a new center-left party prepared to cross swords in the second round of a televised debate on Monday night, directions were published online regarding the voting procedure.

Three more candidates threw their hat into the race for the leadership of Greece's new center-left political party on Friday - the deadline to submit their nomination.

PASOK MP Yiannis Maniatis on Wednesday announced his candidacy to become leader of Greece's new center-left political party.

"My ambition is that [the new party] will render modern social democracy a main player in our country's political developments," Maniatis told journalists after submitting his candidacy.

Belgium ended Greece's unbeaten run in the 2018 World Cup qualifiers on Sunday winning 2-1 in Piraeus.

The result means Greece has dropped to third at the table, one point behind Bosnia, while Belgium has qualified to the World Cup finals. Out of the two home games with Estonia and Belgium Greece has therefore collected just one point.

Up to eight candidates may be vying for the leadership of Greece's new center-left party in elections slated for October, after Mimis Androulakis, an outspoken PASOK euro MP and author, suggested on Friday that he will run for the post.

Stavros Theodorakis, leader of the centrist To Potami party, has suggested that he will run for the leadership of Democratic Alignment in elections scheduled for October.
