Portorož hosting WTA 250 tournament

Portorož – The Slovenian seaside resort of Portorož is hosting the Women’s Tennis Association (WTA) circuit this week for a WTA 250 tournament with a prize money of 235,238 US dollars.

The tournament will open with a ceremony later on Monday followed by an all-Croatian match between Donna Vekić and Ana Konjuh.

Romania's Halep glides into Australian Open women's singles third round

Romanian player Simona Halep, world number three, progressed to the women's singles third round at the Australian Open tennis tournament, the first Grand Slam of the year, after easily defeating british player Harriet Dart 6-2 6-4 on Thursday. Fourth-seeded Halep, 28, dominated the match with qualifier Dart, 23, world number 173, winning in an hour and 17 minutes.

Romanian-Japanese pair Monica Niculescu/Misaki Doi on Wednesday qualified in Melbourne for the second round of the women's doubles event at the Australian Open tennis tournament, the first Grand Slam of the year, after defeating 6-7 (5-7), 6-4, 6-2 the pair Ana Kalinskaia (Russia)/Yulia Putintseva (Kazakhstan).

Ivanovic gets off to winning start in Indian Wells

INDIAN WELLS - Serbia's top-ranked female tennis player Ana Ivanovic has got off to a winning start at the Indian Wells WTA tournament by beating Yulia Putintseva of Kazakhstan 6-3, 6-1 in the second round.

In a match that lasted around 80 minutes, Ivanovic defeated world number 107 Putintseva late Saturday to reach the third round of the tournament.
