The Greece-China Year of Culture and Tourism 2021 will be inaugurated this May, officials said in a written statement on Wednesday.

Culture and Sports Minister Lina Mendoni held a meeting this week with Chinese Ambassador to Greece Zhang Qiyue to discuss the program of events that will run from May 2021 until May 2022, according to an e-mailed press release from the ministry.

China will donate 20,000 masks to help stem the spread of coronavirus at migrant reception centers on the Greek islands, it was announced Tuesday.

The initiative was finalized Tuesday following a phone call between Alternate Migration and Asylum Minister Giorgos Koumoutsakos and China Ambassador to Greece, Zhang Qiyue.

The Chinese Embassy in Greece is closely cooperating with Greek authorities to prevent the spread of the coronavirus, Ambassador Zhang Qiyue said in a briefing in Athens on Thursday, adding that there was "no reason for panic."

The Chinese Ambassador to Greece, Zhang Qiyue, on Monday briefed Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias on the measures assumed in China to contain the spread of the coronavirus.

Health Minister Vassilis Kikilias is to meet the Chinese Ambassador to Greece, Zhang Qiyue, on Monday regarding the response to the deadly coronarivus. 

The virus, which broke out in Wuhan, central China, has killed more than 80 people and infected thousands globally, most of them in China.
