The United States and China may be back to talking at a high level, but their battle for global power and influence remains unchecked and mutual suspicion still runs deep.
U.S. Secretary of State Antony Blinken set low goals for his visit to Beijing this week, and he met them. About the most the rivals can hope for these days is to stop things getting much worse.

The crash of 2 AH-64 Apache Attack Helicopters
Three soldiers were killed and the fourth was injured.
Two soldiers died at the scene of the crash, near Healy, and the third died on the way to a hospital in Fairbanks, the military said. The fourth soldier is in hospital due to injuries.
The names of those killed have been withheld until the next of kin have been notified, the military said.

One of the largest opals in the world was sold for $125,000 at auction in Alaska on Feb. 20.
The opal, dubbed the "Americus Australis," weighs more than 11,800 carats and is one of the largest gem-quality opals in existence, according to the auction house Alaska Premier Auctions & Appraisals. It also has a long history.
