South Korea and the United States fired off missiles on July 5 simulating a precision strike against North Korea's leadership, in response to a landmark missile test described by Kim Jong-Un as a gift to "American bastards."

The U.S. Army and South Korean military responded to North Korea's latest launch with their own exercise of missiles, launching them Wednesday into South Korean territorial waters along the country's eastern coastline, U.S. Pacific Command said in a statement.

North Korea said on July 4 that it successfully test-launched an intercontinental ballistic missile (ICBM) for the first time, which flew a trajectory that experts said could allow a weapon to hit the U.S. state of Alaska.
