Republic’s first church preparing for its opening
Final preparations are almost complete for the opening of Mor Efrem (St. Ephrem) Syriac Ancient Orthodox Church in Istanbul, the first church built in the history of modern Türkiye.
While the church in the Bakırköy district is planned to be opened in two months, comprehensible work is being carried out to eliminate the last deficiencies.

Orient Express in Istanbul after three-year hiatus
Europe's first cross-continental train, the Orient Express shuttling between Paris and Istanbul has arrived in Türkiye after a three-year hiatus due to the pandemic.
The train departing from Paris visited Budapest, Bucharest, Varna and the northwestern Turkish province of Edirne before arriving in Istanbul.

Price of virtual Istanbul land decreases by 70 pct
The nosedive in cryptocurrencies has hit the metaverse as the value of a virtual land parcel in Istanbul has decreased by 70 percent on metaverse platforms.
In OVR, a metaverse platform where some 1.6 trillion parcels of global lands are on sale, an average parcel price in Istanbul was around 200 Turkish Liras ($12.40). Today, it is around 60 liras ($3.73).

Rising sea levels may submerge parts of Istanbul by 2060: US climatologists
The coastal map of Istanbul will change and most of the places along the Bosphorus Strait will be underwater in around four decades, according to a report by a U.S.-based climate organization.
"Seawater will move in around 2 kilometers to the districts located by the Bosphorus," Climate Central said.
Drug lord detained in hotel lobby in Istanbul
The Afghan leader of a drug and crime organization, "Lions-Cartel," said to be involved in more than 30 crimes in Germany, has been detained in an operation in Istanbul.
Sanger Ahmadi was caught in a hotel in the metropolis' Bahçelievler district with four other members of the gang.

Iconic actor of Turkish cinema commemorated
Tarık Akan, one of the most notable names of the "Yeşilçam" era of modern Turkish cinema, was commemorated at various events in Istanbul on the fifth anniversary of his death on Sept. 16.
Akan's family, veteran actors of the Turkish cinema industry and loyal fans of the movie star attended the commemoration ceremony held in Zuhuratbaba Cemetery in the Bakırköy district.

Man who attacked İYİ Party executive arrested
A man who attacked the Istanbul provincial head of the opposition İYİ (Good) Party has been arrested, the Istanbul Governor's Office has said in a statement.
The assailant punched Buğra Kavuncu on Aug. 20 on the street in Istanbul's Bakırköy district as Kavuncu left a TV broadcaster's building after attending a show.

Turkish poet’s historic house used as parking lot
Famous Turkish poet and author Cenap Şahabettin's house in Istanbul's Bakırköy district, where he passed away in 1934, is being used as a parking lot.
The residence of Şahabettin, one of the first pioneers who brought the psychology of the self into poetry, was almost destroyed over the years due to neglect. Now, it is about to collapse.
