‘Meow’ sounds from mobile phone help save stranded kittens
A group of stranded kittens was rescued on May 3 from a rooftop in Turkey using an unconventional method of playing recorded cat sounds on a mobile phone to lure the kittens to come out.
The incident took place in Tabaklar in the northwestern province of Bolu when bystanders realized that three kittens were trapped on a rooftop and called local firefighters for help.

Snow depth shrinks during winter season in Turkey
Snow depth in Turkey remained lower this winter season than past years, data from the General Directorate of Meteorology showed on Feb. 2.
According to records accessed by Anadolu Agency, snow depth in Turkey was usually found to be around the average human height, which is 180 centimeters (5 feet 9 inches) for men and 160 centimeters (5 feet 2 inches) for women.

New herbaceous plant species discovered in northwest Turkey
A new plant belonging to the Iridaceae family has been discovered in northwestern Turkey.
A report on the plant, published in the journal Phytotaxa, said its scientific name is Gladiolus Aladagensis, named after Aladağlar, a mountainous and isolated region in the province of Bolu, where it was discovered.
Ottoman dramas increase interest in antique objects
Demand for swords and knives in the antiques sector has increased thanks to the popular Ottoman TV series, according to antique collector Ercan Eroğlu.
