Commercial vehicle turned into ‘animal ambulance’

Mehmet Yüksel, the head of the Chamber of Money Changers and Jewelers in Diyarbakır (DİKO), has turned a commercial vehicle into an "animal ambulance," which transfers injured animals to veterinarians or to municipal animal shelters.

In addition to the ambulance, food is distributed to stray animals with a feeding truck.

Universities offering full scholarship to 18-year-old

A high school student who made it to the "100 Rise Global" list of brightest students in the world last year has received full scholarships from nine universities, including Harvard and Stanford.

Born and raised in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, 18-year-old Gül Karen Aça is a senior at Bahçeşehir College. Her mother is a music teacher, and her father is a math teacher.

5 Iraqis killed in armed attack in Mardin en route to hospital

An Iraqi group of five people, who were on their way to a private hospital in the southeastern province of Diyarbakır, were killed in an armed attack on early Jan. 19 in the neighboring province of Mardin.

The perpetrators of the armed attack on the jeep, which set off from Iraq's Duhok Governorate, followed the vehicle from the Habur Border Gate, according to the local media.

MİT brings senior PKK member to Türkiye

 

The National Intelligence Organization (MİT) has brought Burhan Piçak, who was leading PKK/KCK's "assassination unit," to Türkiye in the operation carried out in northern Iraq.

Piçak, code-named Canşer/Laşer, was determined to cross into Syria from the southeastern province of Diyarbakır's Lice district in 2015 and join the PKK.

Diyarbakır Prison to be turned into museum

Diyarbakır Prison, which has been long associated with cruelty, torture, and inhumane acts after the Sept. 12, 1980, military coup, will be closed and turned into a museum.

The protocol regarding the transfer of the prison from the Justice Ministry to the Culture and Tourism Ministry was signed between the two ministries.
