Inspired by the "Towel Movement" in Greece, which aims to protest paid services on public beaches, activists in the Turkish Aegean holiday spot of Çeşme have thrown their towels on the shores of private beaches to demand full access.

Landlord becomes ‘guest’ of his tenants
In an incident first of its kind, a landlord in the western province of İzmir, has started living in his house with his tenants, waiting for them to leave.
"I am like a guest of my renters," 50 year-old Engin Alkan told the daily Milliyet on Aug. 14.

Minister slams Greek authorities over mistreatment of migrants
Turkey's Interior Minister Süleyman Soylu has slammed Greek authorities, claiming that the Greek has thrown three migrants into the Aegean Sea, which resulted in one of the victims' death.
Soylu said on Twitter that two of the migrants were rescued while the other one had died following an incident off the coast of the Çeşme district in Turkey's İzmir province.

The Turkish Coast Guard rescued a total of 172 asylum seekers off İzmir province since Aug. 30.

On Aug. 29, 72 asylum seekers were rescued near Menderes district in İzmir after being pushed back by Greek coastal authorities.

Nightclub bodyguards kill 33-year-old man in Alaçatı
Alaçatı, a tourism hotspot in the Aegean province of İzmir, has once again come to the country's agenda, but this time not for its magnificent beaches to promote tourism but for a series of events publicly called "bodyguard terror" that has shadowed the neighborhood for almost a year now.
In the recent chain of events, two bodyguards of a nightclub killed a 33-year-old man.
Nearly 800 irregular migrants held across Turkey
At least 782 irregular migrants were held across Turkey, local authorities said on Aug. 20.

Istanbul Governor Ali Yerlikaya said on Twitter that 436 irregular migrants, including 170 Afghan nationals, were held in 16 districts on Thursday.
They were handed over to the local migration office for deportation procedures, he added.
